Evaluation of Optic Nerve Sheath Diameter Measurement in the Management of Patients Admitted to the Emergency Department with Head Trauma

Objective: Ultrasonographic measurements of optic nerve sheath diameter is associated with increased intracranial pressure. Intracranial pressure are usually performed on critical areas or intensive care unit patients. The effect ultrasonographic measurement in predicting pathology the need for surgery mild moderate head trauma has not been evaluated. In our study, we compared cranial computed tomography (CT) findings and clinical outcomes patients trauma. Materials methods: Patients admitted to emergency department who were diagnosed mild, moderate, severe brain injury selected this retrospective study. diameters measured by ultrasonography. outcome characteristics Results: Of 58 trauma, traumatic was most common. Hospitalization operation required 51.7% (30 patients). mean 4.96 ± 1.02 mm (3.1–7.3 mm) right 4.92 (3.3–7.8) left. Optic 5 more statistically significant hospitalization, presence pathology, CT (P < 0.05). Conclusion: may provide information about hospitalization can be used as a triage criterion determining monitoring follow-up imaging priorities.
